My Diet Changes (Can you believe it? LOL!)
If I can do it ANYONE CAN!! I’ve always told myself I could not change my eating habits no matter how hard I tried but guess what? I did.
Going to the gym is much easier for me than changing my eating habits (and I think it always will be). With me being on the road so much I can’t always find healthy places to eat. When I’m stationary (at home) I seem to eat healthier. I spend a lot of time in Baltimore and most of the fast food spots there (inner city) are completely disgusting to say the least. Poor customer service, unsanitary conditions, and food that is rarely fresh, is my main reasons for not frequenting these spots anymore. So thanks to Baltimore, I’ve cut down on my fast food eating! YEA!!
The list below is my PAST,PRESENT and WHY list. Check it out:
MILK: Whole Milk Silk Soy Milk no cholesterol, lower fat
BREAD: White Bread Whole Grain healthier carbohydrates
JUICES: all types Organics and “no sugar added” don’t need extra sugar
FAST FOOD: 3-5 times a week 2-3 times a month need to cut saturated fats
EGGS: eggs yolks eggs whites no cholesterol or fat
OILS: vegetable Canola and Olive has more of
the “good fats”
MARGARINE : Store brand 3/$.99 Country Crock lower fat, no cholesterol
BACON: Pork turkey lower cholesterol and fat
I’ve been trying different types of fish lately. I’ve realized how much I don’t like Catfish no matter how I cook it. So I had to remove it from my list. So far, every other type of fish that I’ve tried I seem to like: Tilapia, Whiting, Salmon, Tuna, Flounder, Rainbow Trout, and Bass. I usually bake my fish with a little seasoning but I admit sometime I do fry my Whiting….it just taste better fried in my opinion
If I drink carbonated drinks it’s mainly when I’m traveling. When I’m home I don’t buy it as much anymore (unless I’m having guests). I tried Sprite Zero a few months back and it’s a lot better than I thought it would be so I keep that in the fridge when I have a taste for something carbonated.
Foods I’ve added to my diet: mushrooms, squash, zucchini, broccoli, spinach (where have these foods been all my life!!!)
I guess y’all know by now that I’m a baking freak! I love to bake (you can take a look at my creations on Facebook and Myspace). Do I eat what I bake? I do, but controlled portion sizes like any other food that I eat. Baking is mainly a hobby for me. As a child I’ve always had a love for baking and as an adult the passion for baking is still in me. I normally give most of my baked goods to friends.
So as you can see my diet changes are definitely a work in progress but it’s not as hard as I thought it would be. I’m making healthier choices and still able to enjoy the foods that I love (and that taste good). Eating healthier doesn’t mean you can’t eat the things you love. Just limit them and be more responsible.
If you’re currently making revisions to your diet and you would like to share your story or if you want to suggest healthier foods or recipes to me, feel free to comment on this story. I welcome great advice!

Hey Buffie: Im from Baltimore and I completely agree with our inner city fast food spots. Im glad for some reason I never adopted the Cicken boes, cheesesteaks, and half and half cultures! I turned 30 last year and started changing my eating habits. No more white bread, eggs, or sugar. I always try to purchase Brown sugar, brown eggs Turkey bacon, and whole grain bread. No soda’s or sugary juices…usually V8 splash or water….Thanks for the tips!…ps I hav been nicknamed “baby Buffie” lol

I have been trying to eat alot better and this is really inspiring for me. I don’t eat as healthy as I would like all the time but I definitely see the difference in my body. I was alot like you eating fast food 5 times a week, now I eat fast food maybe 3 times a month and I lost 10 pounds…amazing thing was that I lost most of the weight in my tummy! All the healthy food still gave me tons of calories so my booty is still the same in inches.

It’s very good to see that more people are starting to understand the reason for healthy eating. It will really help you in the long run.
I wasn’t the unhealthiest eater, but my problem was sweets and I did not eat a lot of fast food. But growing up in a southern family, everyone knows how soul food makes the soul feel wonderful, but our waistlines get LARGER and our systems get backed up and we become tired and inactive.
Since my mother passed and me traveling for business (IT Field). I would eat late and then eat more sweets for energy. But once your favorite outfit doesn’t fit, you get a wakeup call.
Well I stared using fruit to take care of that sweet craving and although fruits are simple carbs… the fructose or sugar contained in fruits will not cause a quick rise in blood sugar that WILL NOT make you store fat as easily. Fruits contain fiber and other nutrients that are beneficial to weight loss. Fruits & vegetables high in vitamin C like… Oranges, lemons, pineapples, grapefruit, apples, limes, tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage, celery, carrot, and watermelon liquefy (or burn off) body fat so the fat can be easily flushed out of your body.
So with this change my insides feel much better, I am not as bloated or retaining water like I use to and eating more fruit they work as natural laxatives and diuretics; so you not use any pills or over the counter medicines; you become regular naturally.
I also walk for 45-60 minutes a day, if I don’t go to the gym. Ladies Just keep active and you will feel much better internally…..Good Luck
